Safaricom has launched Fuliza Ya Pochi, an overdraft facility that will allow qualifying Pochi La Biashara merchants to access additional funds when their business wallet balance is insufficient.
The service targets more than one million qualifying merchants. It allows them to complete payments to suppliers, make Buy Goods purchases, send money and settle utility bills without interrupting their daily business operations.
Merchants must have actively used Pochi La Biashara for more than six months to qualify. Eligible users can access the service through the Pochi Mini App on My OneApp or by dialling *334#.
Each merchant will receive an overdraft limit based on their business activity. Repayments will automatically be deducted from future payments received in their Pochi wallet.
“Across Kenya, thousands of micro-businesses face daily cash flow gaps that can mean missed sales, delayed stock purchases, or postponed supplier payments. Fuliza Ya Pochi helps merchants overcome these short-term challenges while continuing to build their businesses. As merchants transact and grow on M-PESA, they create a pathway to greater financial opportunities,” said Peter Ndegwa, Group CEO, Safaricom PLC.
Pochi La Biashara currently serves more than two million micro-merchants in Kenya, providing a platform for receiving customer payments while keeping business and personal funds separate.
