NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 23 – Chinese technology brand TECNO has secured two IFA Global Product Technology Innovation Awards at IFA 2026, highlighting the Chinese technology company’s push into modular smartphones and high-performance compact computing beyond its established mass-market handset business.

The company’s TECNO Modular Phone won the Ultra Slim Magnetic Modular Technology Innovation Gold Award, while the Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS (MEGA MINI G1 Pro) received the Miniaturized Gaming PC Technology Innovation Gold Award.

The recognition comes as TECNO expands its product portfolio beyond its better-known Camon, Spark and POVA smartphone ranges, with the latest devices combining compact hardware designs with artificial intelligence and modular technology.

The awards were established in 2014 by IDG, IFA and DIHK to recognize innovation in consumer electronics, with products assessed for technological development, design and user-focused features.

For Kenyan consumers, the immediate impact of the awards is likely to be limited because the Modular Phone is yet to enter mass production, while the TAURUS is positioned as a specialized premium gaming and computing product.

The Modular Phone uses a magnetic connection system and pogo-pin connectors to support a range of modules while retaining a 3,000mAh to 4,000mAh battery in the main device.

TECNO says the portless design also provides dust and water resistance.

The company has positioned the device as a potential hardware platform for personal artificial intelligence assistants, addressing the challenge of accommodating increasing computing requirements within increasingly thin smartphones.

The TAURUS, meanwhile, targets gaming and AI computing users. It features an Intel Core i9 13900HK processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 graphics and a water-cooling system designed to maintain performance under sustained workloads.

TECNO also showcased a 0mm-bezel concept smartphone and the MEGABOOK T15 360 Pro convertible laptop at IFA 2026. Both remain concept products and are not currently positioned as mainstream retail devices.

For the Kenyan market, the developments offer an indication of where TECNO could take its product ecosystem as premium features, AI capabilities and new form factors increasingly influence competition in consumer electronics.
