Survey finds students sent home over illegal school fees

A survey by the Elimu Bora Working Group has found that some schools continue to bar students from attending classes or send them home over unpaid fees and levies. The study, which covered 388 households across 11 counties, also found that some children are being punished because their parents are unable to pay what the group describes as illegal fees and levies. The civil society group is now calling on the Ministry of Education to urgently audit school fee structures and enforce the law against institutions imposing unauthorised charges.
