Solar-powered brooders cut poultry farming costs in Homa Bay

Description (show more)

Poultry farmers in Kotieno Village, Homa Bay County, are adopting solar-powered brooders to reduce energy costs and chick mortality. The Future Seed Group, formed by 25 university graduates in 2016, switched from charcoal and electricity-powered brooders to solar technology after facing high costs, smoke and safety risks. The system, supported by Kind Heart Organisation (KHO) Kenya through a BMZ-funded poultry programme, automatically regulates temperature and humidity using sensors, heat bulbs and cooling fans.
