Doctors at Aga Khan University Hospital conduct landmark Ovarian Cystectomy robotic surgery

Description (show more)

Kenya's robotic surgery programme has entered a new phase, with surgeons at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi used robotic technology to remove an ovarian cyst measuring more than ten centimetres. The robotic-assisted ovarian cystectomy marks the expansion of robotic surgery into gynaecological care, following the hospital's first robotic operation in August to remove a gallbladder. Gynaecological oncologist Dr Elkanah Omenge says the technology provides surgeons with greater precision and control during complex procedures. He says the smaller incisions used in the procedure can mean less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery for suitable patients.
