Our client, a leading Kenyan fashion and lifestyle retail brand, is seeking to recruit a hands-on, detail-oriented Accountant to join its growing retail team to be based in Nairobi. The successful candidate will take ownership of the finance function, strengthening financial controls, reporting, and processes across the business. They will thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment and bring a proven ability to build structure, identify and resolve inefficiencies, and provide clear, actionable financial insights to support business performance and growth.

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and support monthly management accounts, financial reporting, and variance analysis.

Reconciliations & Revenue Assurance

  • Oversee reconciliation of bank, M-PESA, card/PDQ, and payment processor transactions, ensuring discrepancies and overcharges are identified and resolved.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Optimize POS and inventory systems and drive digitization and automation of financial and operational processes.

Inventory & Cost Control

  • Strengthen inventory accounting, monitor stock movements and margins, and identify shrinkage, leakages, and cost inefficiencies.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Develop and enforce effective controls for cash, procurement, expenses, and petty cash while ensuring compliance with applicable statutory requirements.

Procurement & Payables

  • Strengthen purchasing and approval processes, manage supplier balances and payments, and ensure accurate recording of import-related costs.

Strategic Business Support

  • Provide the Managing Director with timely financial dashboards, insights, risk analysis, and recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Accounting/Finance with 3–5 years’ relevant experience, or Certificate in Accounting with 5–7 years’ hands-on experience. A degree and CPA (K) qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Strong practical experience in bank, M-PESA, POS/PDQ, and payment reconciliations.
  • Experience in retail, FMCG, or multi-branch operations is preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience in inventory accounting, stock control, and reconciliation.
  • Strong attention to detail, high integrity, and the ability to work independently and take ownership.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing business environment.
