Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale’s wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has died after a sudden collapse.
In a statement on August 15, Khalwale said Gloria suffered a heart attack before her death.
“My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack,” Khalwale said.
Khalwale said Gloria was the mother of their children, naming them as Engine Kukaste Khalwale, Olivia Sabayi Khalwale, Flavia Shimuli Khalwale, Gift Atubukha Khalwale, Meliza Khamwenyi Khalwale, Velma Nasiebanda Khalwale, Sonia Inuni Khalwale and Maura Makatse Khalwale.
Director of Communications for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Philip Etale has sent his condolences to Boni Khalwale following the sudden death of his wife.
In a message, Etale mourned Gloria’s death and extended his condolences to Boni Khalwale, his family, the community of Malinya in Ikolomani and the wider Kakamega County.
“My heartfelt condolences to Senator Dr. Bonny Khalwale following the sudden death of his beloved wife Mama Gloria Khalwale earlier this morning. Pole sana to the family, the community of Malinya in Ikolomani and the entire Kakamega County which Dr. Khalwale represents in the House of Senate,” Etale said.
He prayed for peace and strength for Khalwale and his family as they mourn Gloria.
“May God grant you peace and fortitude during this difficult time of mourning,” he added.
Member of Parliament for Alego Usonga Constituency in Siaya County, Sam Atandi, also sent his condolences to Khalwale and his family.
“My sincere condolences, Senator. May God comfort you and your family during this difficult time,” Atandi said.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna also mourned the death of Gloria Khalwale, sending condolences to Boni Khalwale.
I am deeply sorry for your loss. May God comfort you and your family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Omwami. May her soul rest in peace,” Sifuna said.
Khalwale’s Family and Political Career
In February 2024, Boni Khalwale revealed during a press conference that he had four wives and 17 children.
He identified his first wife as the late Adelaide Khalwale, who was the mother of his first three children. Adelaide died in 2019.
His second wife is Josephine Khalwale, with whom he has three children. Khalwale said at the time that one of their children had completed university while the other two were still in school.
Gloria was his third wife and the mother of eight of his children.
Khalwale said some of the eight children were in university, while others were pursuing lower-level education.
His fourth wife is Diana Khalwale, with whom he has three children, all of whom were in lower levels of education at the time.
Khalwale served as the first Senator of Kakamega County from 2013 to 2017.
Before becoming a senator, he represented Ikolomani Constituency as a Member of Parliament from 2002 to 2013.
He unsuccessfully sought the Kakamega governorship in the 2017 General Election before returning to the Senate in 2022, when he won the Kakamega senatorial seat.
Boni Khalwale is a medical doctor.
