Kang’ata Ranked Best-Performing Governor [Full List]

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has been ranked Kenya’s best-performing governor in the latest Infotrak CountyTrak Performance Index 2026.

The survey released on August 4 ranked Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya second with a score of 76 percent, while Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi came third after scoring 71 percent.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo shared fourth position with 66 percent each.

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin tied in sixth place after each scored 65 percent.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit followed in ninth position with 63 percent, while Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu ranked 11th with 61 percent.

Kang’ata, Natembeya, Wamatangi Lead Infotrak Rankings

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki secured 12th place with a score of 60 per cent, followed by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru at 58 per cent and Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime at 57 per cent.

The survey also placed Kitui Governor Julius Malombe, Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim in a tie at 15th position after each scored 56 per cent.

Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi shared 19th place with scores of 55 per cent.

Rounding off the top 25 were Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti and Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, who each scored 54 per cent.

Best Preforming Counties

Murang’a County emerged as the top performer in county planning and development in the 2026 CountyTrak Performance Index, scoring 53 per cent to rank first nationally.

According to Infotrak, Murang’a was the only county to score above the 50 per cent mark, making it the clear leader in county planning and development among all the counties assessed in the survey.

Kiambu followed in second place with 49 per cent, while Elgeyo Marakwet, Homa Bay, Makueni and Trans Nzoia shared third position after each scored 48 per cent.

Kisii and Kisumu tied for seventh place with 47 per cent, followed by Tharaka Nithi and Uasin Gishu, which each scored 46 per cent.

Bungoma, Kericho, Kwale, Nandi and Taita Taveta were jointly ranked 11th with scores of 45 per cent. West Pokot followed with 45 per cent, while Mombasa and Samburu shared 17th place after each recorded 44 per cent.

Baringo, Embu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kitui, Lamu, Machakos, Migori, Nakuru, Narok and Nyeri tied at 19th position with scores of 43 per cent.
