Kenyan musician Edgar, popularly known as Stoopid Boy, has reportedly passed away.

The death of the arbantone artist occurred on August 27, 2026, with circumstances surrounding his death yet to be fully disclosed.
Stoopid Boy became widely known in Kenya after his breakout track “G Baga Jat,” also referred to as “G Bag Na Jug.” The song was released in 2024 and became associated with the rapid rise of Arbantone, a Kenyan urban music sound that gained significant popularity among young listeners.
Stoopid Boy contributed to a Christopher Birch riddim challenge, noting that his “G Baga Jat” was widely regarded by online audiences as one of the strongest entries. The challenge also featured artists such as Maandy, Mejja and YBW Smith.
The song was later remixed by established and emerging Kenyan artistes, including Mejja, Breeder LW, Gody Tennor and Spoiler.
Cause of death yet to be disclosed
Details about what led to Stoopid Boy’s reported death remain unclear. The development comes after the musician had built a following through his distinctive street-oriented music and his association with the new generation of Kenyan Arbantone artistes.
His breakthrough also came as Arbantone expanded across Kenya. The genre drew from older riddims and sounds while incorporating contemporary Kenyan slang, dance culture and social-media trends.
Music Career amid Personal Struggles
Stoopid Boy’s rise to fame came despite challenges in his personal life and career. In 2024, he lived in difficult conditions in Riverbank, an informal settlement associated with Gotta City, even as he gained national attention for his music.
His personal struggles also became part of his public story. In 2025, Stoopid Boy had spent about three months in rehabilitation before beginning what was described as a new chapter in his life. He spoke publicly about his Christian faith and his desire to change his lifestyle.
Before his death, he remained associated with the Arbantone movement and released or was featured on several songs including “Gangster Lover,” “Sangwangwa,” “Sherehe,” “Mareka” and “Wacha Masteam,” among other tracks released between 2024 and 2025.
Rapper traces drinking habits to his roots
Kenyan rapper Stoopid Boy checked into a rehabilitation program a few weeks after opening up on his struggle with drugs in February 2025. According to Stoopid Boy, his drugs and substance abuse are something he has struggled with for a long time, and he traces it to his grandfather who he says was an alcoholic.
Taking to social media, the rapper stated that he was on his way to shop for a few necessities before checking into rehab for three months.
He announced his resolve to quit alcohol and thanked comedian Oga Obinna who had promised to enroll the artist in rehab.
He also revealed that he has been facing challenges after his wife left him.
The ‘G bag na Jug’ hitmaker expressed his desire to reform during an interview on Obinna TV.
