ODM party leader Oburu Oginga has traveled to the United Kingdom for a routine medical examination, the Orange Democratic Movement has confirmed.
The Siaya Senator left the country on September 6, with ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale confirming that he is in the UK for the check-up.
Etale said Oburu was doing well and dismissed concerns over his health.
“Yes, he is in the United Kingdom for a routine checkup. He is doing fine,” Etale said.
The ODM official added that the senator is expected to return to Kenya on Saturday.
Moments later, Oburu’s office confirmed his whereabouts.
“The Office of the Party Leader wishes to address our ODM family and the people of Kenya. I am currently in the United Kingdom (UK) to undergo a thorough, routine medical checkup. This visit follows the direct advice of both my doctors and the party leadership to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of my health, while allowing me a dedicated period of rest and rejuvenation,” read part of the statement signed by the veteran politician.
He assured millions of ODM supporters that the party’s operations would not halt because of his absence.
Oburu explained: “The party has able stewards, of our Deputy Party Leaders, H.E. Paul Simba Arati (Governor, Kisii County) and H.E. Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir (Governor, Mombasa County) working hand in hand with our highly capable National Central Committee and secretariat.”
Oburu’s latest medical visit comes shortly after he spent a brief period at Nairobi Hospital on September 1 and was expected to be flown out of the country.
According to reports on September 1, only his two spouses and children were allowed to visit him, with people familiar with the matter confirming the restrictions.
Several Members of Parliament who sought to visit Oburu were reportedly turned away after being told he was not at the facility.
At the time, Oburu Oginga was last seen in public on Saturday, August 29, when he played golf.
After his hospital visit, political leaders and friends visited Oburu to check on his well-being.
Oburu Earlier Addressed Concerns About His Health

Oburu said he was in good health and visited the hospital only briefly for a general check-up with his doctors before returning home. He also dismissed concerns that the visit should cause alarm, saying illness is a normal human experience.
“I had only briefly visited the hospital for a general check-up with my doctors and have since returned home. Being sick is a normal human experience and should not alarm anyone. The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person,” said Oburu.

The veteran politician said he had seen reports in the digital media and wanted to assure the public that he was doing well.
He also sought to play down concerns about hospital treatment, noting that illness is a normal human experience and should not automatically cause alarm.
