Residents of Nairobi’s Eastlands can now access Java House without having to travel into the city centre, following the opening of the restaurant chain’s first outlet in Buruburu.

The new branch sits at a TotalEnergies station where Jogoo Road meets Rabai Road, placing it within reach of customers from Buruburu and neighbouring estates such as Donholm and Komarock.

The opening is part of Java House’s continued push to establish outlets closer to residential communities. The company now has 114 outlets across Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.

For the restaurant chain, the Buruburu location also offers access to a busy commuter route. Jogoo Road serves thousands of residents travelling between Eastlands and other parts of Nairobi, making the new outlet accessible to both local customers and people passing through the area.

Java House Group CEO Priscilla Gathungu said the decision to open in Buruburu was influenced by the area’s continued growth and demand for food and coffee services within residential neighbourhoods.

The new restaurant has also been given a distinct local character. Its interior artwork draws inspiration from places and features associated with Buruburu and the wider Eastlands area.

Among the references are the Buruburu Institute of Fine Arts, Mutindwa Market, Makadara Railway Station and the area’s distinctive matatus.

The inclusion of local landmarks is intended to connect the outlet with the community rather than presenting it as another standard branch of the growing chain.

Java House began operations in Nairobi in 1999 and has since developed from a coffee-focused business into a wider casual dining group.

Its expansion has taken the brand beyond Kenya, with outlets now operating in Uganda and Rwanda. The group has also added other food and beverage concepts to its portfolio, including Planet Yoghurt, 360 Degrees Pizza and Kukito.

The Buruburu opening comes as businesses increasingly target Nairobi’s residential areas, where growing populations have created demand for restaurants, retail outlets and other services closer to home.

For Java House, the latest branch adds another location in a part of the capital with a large residential population and strong daily traffic.

The company’s growing outlet network also reflects its strategy of taking its brands beyond established commercial centres and into neighbourhoods where customers increasingly seek convenient dining options.
