Absa Bank Kenya has rolled out a week-long programme across Uasin Gishu County to celebrate a century of continuous operations in Eldoret.
The centenary programme brings together customers, current and retired staff, community leaders, and local entrepreneurs to mark 100 years of shared growth while setting priorities for future investments in the area.
Throughout the week, Absa’s executive leadership held targeted listening sessions and consultative forums with local businesses, traders, and agricultural enterprises across the county to assess evolving regional financial needs.
Absa Bank Kenya Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Yusuf Omari, emphasized the significance of the milestone during engagements in Eldoret: “Reaching 100 years in Eldoret is a remarkable milestone and a testament to the trust that generations of customers have placed in us. This week has been an opportunity to celebrate the people and businesses that have been part of our journey while listening to their stories and aspirations for the future. Our customer engagements reinforce our commitment to remaining a trusted financial partner that supports growth, creates opportunities, and helps unlock the region’s immense economic potential.”
As part of the stakeholder outreach, bank executives paid a courtesy visit on Thursday to multi-world record holder and Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon, celebrating her global athletic achievements and contribution to Kenya’s international profile.
On Thursday evening, the lender hosted a formal dinner for current and retired staff members who helped establish and scale the bank’s regional presence over the decades.
The festivities transition to sports-driven community platforms over the weekend. On Saturday, the lender will host the Absa @ 100 Golf Tournament, gathering corporate clients, regional entrepreneurs, and partners for a day of networking.
The centenary celebrations will culminate on Sunday with the inaugural Absa City Run – Eldoret Edition. The road race is slated to draw thousands of participants, including world-class distance runners, amateur joggers, and local families across competitive and fun-run categories.
Highlighting the strategy behind the weekend showcases, Absa Bank Marketing and Corporate Affairs Director Mwihaki Wachira noted: “As we celebrate a century of serving the people of Eldoret, we wanted to create experiences that bring together our customers, colleagues, partners, and the wider community. The golf tournament and the Absa Eldoret City Run are important brand and community engagement platforms that reflect our commitment to building meaningful connections, promoting healthy lifestyles, and creating a positive impact beyond banking.”
