Bamburi Cement is seeking a contract to supply up to one million tonnes of cement and concrete products for the planned 700,000-barrel-per-day Dangote Lamu crude oil refinery.
Bamburi Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Ndugwa said the company is seeking to supply Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemical SEZ with locally manufactured construction materials throughout the project development cycle.
“At Bamburi Cement, we are celebrating the Dangote Group and the Government of Kenya milestone as the construction works for the world’s largest single-train crude oil refinery get underway,” Ndugwa said.
The cement manufacturer said the refinery’s civil and related construction works are expected to consume approximately 1 million tonnes of cement and concrete products during the development of the project.

The company plans to offer DuraCem 42.5-grade cement, a sulfate- and chloride-resistant cement designed for large-scale and marine construction projects.
Bamburi is also offering its locally manufactured Ultra-series specialized concrete products, including waterproof concrete for moisture-prone areas, self-compacting concrete for seamless pours, pervious concrete for drainage, and fiber-reinforced concrete designed to improve crack resistance.
Ndugwa said Bamburi is well positioned to manufacture and deliver the required materials to the refinery site from its Mombasa plant.
“The civil and related construction works for the 700,000 barrel-per-day refinery will consume an approximate 1 million tons of cement and concrete solutions, and we are well positioned to manufacture and deliver to the project site from our Mombasa plant,” he added.
The refinery project is expected to process different grades of crude oil, ranging from light to heavy crude, allowing it to source feedstock from multiple regions.
Major Projects That It Has Undertaken So Far
Bamburi Cement has supplied materials for several major infrastructure projects in Kenya and the wider East African region, including transport, housing, sports and public infrastructure developments.
Among the projects is the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), where Bamburi supplied cement for construction works along the extensive railway network. The company has also supplied materials for the Nairobi Expressway, a 27-kilometre road linking Nairobi’s eastern and western transport corridors.
In Mombasa, Bamburi has been involved in major projects including the Dongo Kundu Bypass and Makupa Bridge, supplying specialised cement suited to infrastructure exposed to coastal and marine conditions.
Bamburi is also the preferred cement supplier for the Talanta Sports City Stadium in Nairobi, a 60,000-seat facility being developed as a major venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
It has also supplied materials for major water and energy infrastructure projects, including the Thwake Multi-Purpose Dam in Makueni County, which is being developed to support water supply, power generation and irrigation. The project uses Bamburi’s specialized products for large-scale concrete works and temperature control.
In Kwale County, Bamburi has supplied Duracem for the Mwache Dam, a major water infrastructure project designed to provide clean water while supporting long-term development in the region.
