I&M Foundation in partnership with Help Change Lives has rolled out a scholarship programme targeting 211 students across 39 public universities nationwide.
The initiative, which officially commenced in September 2026, goes beyond traditional financial support. In addition to covering tuition fees and living stipends, the programme equips scholars with essential digital tools. The students recently received brand-new laptops during a handover ceremony held at the I&M Bank Headquarters in Nairobi, a crucial step toward bridging the digital divide for tertiary students.
Speaking during the laptop handover ceremony, I&M Bank Kenya CEO Abdi Mohamed drew from his personal journey to inspire the scholars, emphasizing resilience, lifelong learning, and mentorship.
“Education gives you choices. It gives you a chance to take a different path, regardless of where you started,” said Mohamed. “One thing I have learnt in my own journey is that you never stop learning, so stay curious, ask questions and learn from the people around you and not just from your books. Through the I&M Foundation, we are supporting you so that you can focus on your education and discover what you want to do with it. As you move forward, remember to help someone else along the way.”
Dorine Nalo, Head of the I&M Foundation, echoed these sentiments, highlighting that meaningful educational support must extend beyond tuition payments to encompass the full student experience.
“Education remains one of the most powerful ways to transform lives and create opportunities for future generations,” Nalo noted. “However, access to university education alone is not enough. Young people must also have the resources and tools to participate fully in their learning and develop the skills that will enable them to thrive. Through our partnership with Help Change Lives, we are investing not only in the education of 211 students but also in their potential to contribute meaningfully to their communities and Kenya’s future.”
Implemented under the Foundation’s Education and Skills Development pillar, the initiative highlights I&M Foundation’s strategy of collaborating with specialized organizations to deliver high-impact interventions for vulnerable and marginalized communities.
The Foundation’s long-term community investments are sustained directly by I&M Bank Kenya, which commits an annual endowment equivalent to 2% of its Profit Before Tax (PBT).
