Kenya Airways (KQ) has appointed governance expert and advocate Catherine Musakali as an independent non-executive director, effective July 29, 2026.

In an announcement dated July 29, Kenya Airways stated that Catherine Musakali was appointed to fill a vacancy on the airline’s board, effective immediately.

“This announcement is made pursuant to the Capital Markets (Securities) (Public Offers, Listing and Disclosures) Regulations 2023, promulgated under the Capital Markets Act,” read part of the notice.

“The Board of Directors of Kenya Airways Pic (“KQ”) hereby announces the appointment of Ms. Catherine Musakali, OGW, FCPSK, ACIrb, as an independent non-executive director of the Company, effective 29th July 2026, to fill a casual vacancy on the Board.”

Musakali will join a board chaired by Kiprono Kittony, alongside Raphael Owino Otieno, Teresia Mbaika, Chris Diaz, Winnie Iminza Nyamute, David Ndii, Philip Wanjohi Wambugu and Esther Koimett, who serve as non-executive and independent non-executive directors.

Catherine Musakali Career Background

Catherine Musakali is the founder and managing partner of Dorion Associates LLP, a Nairobi-based consultancy specializing in legal, governance and regulatory advisory services.

She has led the firm since 2013, providing corporate governance training, board evaluations, governance audits, legal advisory and compliance services to public and private sector organizations.

Musakali is also the chair and co-founder of the Women on Boards Network Kenya, a non-profit organization established in 2019 to promote greater representation of women in corporate boardrooms through mentorship, training and leadership development.

Before founding Dorion Associates, Musakali spent more than 15 years at Kenya Shell Limited, where she served as Head of Legal and Company Secretary.

During her tenure, she oversaw legal, corporate governance, and compliance matters; led competition law and governance training; managed mergers and acquisitions; and advised boards on their governance responsibilities.

Her regional experience includes serving as North and East Legal Focal Point for Shell Oil Products Africa, where she managed legal teams across several African countries and led legal work on cross-border transactions.

She also served as Legal Counsel at Shell International Limited in London, supporting global mergers and acquisitions projects.

She has held several board leadership positions, including serving as a director at KASNEB, a special interest director at the Nairobi Stock Exchange, and chairperson of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya, where she championed good corporate governance in both the public and private sectors.

Educational Background

Musakali is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya.

She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Commercial Law and Human Rights and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and a Certificate in Securities and Investment from the Securities and Investment Institute in the United Kingdom.
