Kenya is seeking to expand its exports to Singapore and narrow a trade gap that currently favours the Asian country following talks between Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong.
The two leaders discussed ways of strengthening bilateral trade and cooperation during a meeting held on Tuesday, November 3, on the sidelines of the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in St John's, Antigua and Barbuda.
Figures presented during the discussions showed that Singapore exports goods worth approximately $80 million to Kenya, while Kenya's exports to the Asian country stand at about $10 million.
The two sides agreed to explore ways of increasing Kenyan exports and creating a more balanced trading relationship.
Kindiki said Kenya could benefit from Singapore's experience in developing its trade, transport and logistics sectors.
He also pointed to Singapore's public housing programme as an area from which Kenya could draw lessons as it seeks to address its own housing challenges.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the two countries to identify areas where they can share expertise and strengthen economic ties.
Kenya's interest in Singapore's experience in logistics and transport comes alongside efforts to expand its trade links with Asian markets and increase the range of goods it exports.
The proposed cooperation could also provide insights into addressing some of Kenya's development priorities, particularly in housing and climate action.
The meeting reflects the two countries' shared interest in building stronger economic partnerships and identifying areas of mutual benefit.
The 28th CHOGM brings together leaders from across the Commonwealth to discuss shared challenges, economic partnerships and development priorities.
