CS Wandayi said the Ministry was working with contractors and relevant agencies to meet the target, noting that the project had taken more than 14 years to reach its current stage.
The Senate Standing Committee on Energy has pressed government agencies to account for delays in major energy projects, limited electricity access in rural areas and high fuel costs, urging them to ensure promised investments translate into reliable and affordable energy for Kenyans.
The concerns emerged during a retreat in Mombasa involving the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and key sector agencies to review project implementation, energy policy and challenges requiring legislative and oversight intervention.
Committee Chairperson William Kisang said the retreat was aimed at establishing the status of major energy programmes, identifying implementation bottlenecks and determining the interventions needed to ensure projects are completed.
