Organisers of celebrations to honour the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga led by Committee chairperson Prof. Adams Oloo are calling for attendance of everyone.

According to Oloo, Ida Odinga, Raila’s widow, has handed down instructions that while all people are welcome to the one year anniversary, “goons” can’t be invited.

She (Ida) told me three times that they (goons) are not invited, although they are people. She told me three times that they are not invited, although they are people,” Oloo stressed

He added: “This celebration has to be national; it knows no religion, it has no boundary. It has to reflect what Baba was.”

Raila, who served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 under coalition government, died at the age of 80 on October 15, 2025, after suffering a cardiac arrest in Kerala, India.

He played a key role in pushing for multiparty democracy and constitutional reforms in Kenya.

Apparently, Kenya School of Government has established the Raila Odinga Regional Leadership Academy.

This precedent has tickled down, with the University of Nairobi also setting up Raila Odinga Centre for Democracy set to be launched on his Anniversary Day.

Will other government institutions follow cue?
