The Uasin Gishu County health department has declared it was adequately prepared to handle medical emergencies and provide coordinated services during this year’s Mashujaa Day national celebrations to be held at Kipchoge Keino Stadium on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

The announcement followed a preparedness assessment meeting of the County Health Committee held at county headquarters in Eldoret city, chaired by Director of Medical Services Dr Evans Kiprotich.

The session assembled county health officials and representatives from private health facilities to review emergency response plans and strengthen public-private collaboration.

“We are ready for the day. All necessary measures are in place, and our health teams across the county are prepared to deliver efficient, timely and well-coordinated services throughout the event,” Kiprotich said.

The official stressed the need for close cooperation between public and private facilities to guarantee comprehensive coverage on the material day.

“Close collaboration between public and private health facilities is essential in ensuring we can respond effectively to any health emergencies that may arise,” Kiprotich added.

Deputy Director for Nursing Services Betty Chirchir and Crispus Massam from Clinical Services also addressed the meeting. Both emphasized that continuous coordination among stakeholders remains critical.

“This meeting marks another significant milestone in our preparations to host the national event,” Chirchir said, while urging the sector to maintain strong coordination in order to safeguard the health and safety of residents, visitors and all participants.

Massam echoed the call for sustained teamwork, noting that the health sector will play a central role in delivering emergency and medical services during the celebrations.

The committee reviewed key areas, including emergency preparedness, response protocols and overall coordination.

Stakeholders present committed to working together to ensure the safety of everyone expected to attend the national event in the region.

As preparations intensify, county health authorities say they remain focused on providing seamless medical support to contribute to a safe and successful Mashujaa Day.

This year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations will be co-hosted by Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties with the main national celebrations to be held at Kipchoge Keino stadium.
