Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has inspected ongoing development projects in Lari Constituency, Kiambu County, including the Nyambari Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) Market and the Nyambari–Uplands–Kambaa–Githunguri road.

Kindiki, accompanied by Lari MP Mburu Kahangara and other local leaders, said the projects were part of government’s efforts to improve infrastructure, expand economic opportunities and strengthen livelihoods in the region.

Speaking during the inspection of the Nyambari market, Kindiki said the Government would continue investing in roads, markets and agricultural support programs to stimulate economic activity.

“We will continue building roads in the area and across Kiambu County. We will also distribute semen and animal feeds and lower the price of fertilizer,” Kindiki said.

He said the government was also committed to constructing modern markets that would provide traders and farmers with better facilities to conduct business and access markets.

The two-storey Nyambari ESP Market, located in Lari Kirenga Ward, will accommodate about 120 traders on its ground and first floors.

The facility will include a mothers’ room, a children’s playing area, a social hall for local administration meetings, cold and dry storage rooms and ICT hubs intended to support digital transformation and economic activity.

Construction of the market has already created more than 100 jobs for local workers and professionals involved in the built environment. The project is expected to be completed within the next two months.

Kindiki said more markets would be rolled out in the constituency, including a facility at Kagaa in Kamburu Ward. He also noted that the Soko Mjinga Market was nearing completion.

The investments are expected to provide traders with improved working spaces while strengthening the link between farmers, traders and consumers.

Kahangara said the projects were responding to longstanding infrastructure and trading needs among residents.

“We are happy for this government. Locals are happy,” Kahangara said.

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki with Lari MP Mburu Kahangara and Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a during an inspection of the Nyambari–Uplands–Kambaa–Githunguri road in Lari, Kiambu County, Monday, October 5, 2026.

The MP said the modern markets would provide a structured environment for traders while supporting farmers who depend on reliable markets for their produce.

Kahangara had further said the Nyambari market would improve trading conditions for residents, particularly in an area where agriculture is a major economic activity

Kindiki also inspected construction works on the 15-kilometre Nyambari–Uplands–Kambaa–Githunguri road, which forms part of a 53-kilometre road network being implemented under the same contract.

The wider network includes the Kagwe–Githunguri and Kagwe–Mung’eero roads.

The Deputy President said the administration had already tarmacked the Nyambari–Kijabe–Mai Mahiu Road and was planning to upgrade the 11-kilometre Kinale–Kiracha road.

He said the dualling of the Rironi–Mau Summit highway was also on course, with the road expected to become a four-lane highway and, in some sections, a six-lane highway at an estimated cost of Sh20 billion.

According to figures presented during the inspection, 1,656 kilometers of new roads are under construction in Kiambu County at a cost of Sh152 billion. Of these, 368 kilometers valued at Sh20 billion have been completed.

The road projects are expected to improve connectivity, reduce transport challenges and facilitate the movement of agricultural produce from farms to markets.

Kindiki said continued investment in infrastructure would complement agricultural interventions by creating better links between production areas and markets.

The Government has continued to emphasize the development of markets and roads as part of efforts to strengthen local economies and improve access to services and markets.
