A thriving commercial farm in Ziwa has been hailed as a shining example of how modern agriculture can drive economic growth, create jobs and equip young people with practical skills.
Dr Philip Chebunet, County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Investment, Tourism, Cooperatives and Enterprise Development, made the remarks during a visit to JOSCO Farm, where he was accompanied by Chief Officer for Cooperatives Elphas Kesio and Directors Kipleting Mengich and Drucilla Cherogony.
“As the CECM responsible for Trade, Investment, Tourism, Cooperatives and Enterprise Development, I am encouraged by the innovations and practices being implemented at JOSCO Farm,” Chebunet said. Such initiatives demonstrate that agriculture can be a key driver of economic growth when approached as a business,” said Dr Chebunet.
He said the county government remains keen to support innovative agricultural ventures that show farming can be transformed into a viable commercial enterprise while generating employment.
Chebunet particularly praised the farm’s role in mentoring the next generation.
“JOSCO Farm is playing a crucial role in imparting agricultural knowledge and practical skills to young people through attachment opportunities and employment,” he noted.
“These initiatives expose the youth to modern farming practices, enterprise management and value addition. They equip them with skills that can help them pursue careers and businesses in the agricultural sector,” the CEC added.
The CECM added that the county will continue promoting partnerships with innovative farmers, cooperatives and private-sector players to strengthen value addition, improve market access and expand enterprise development across the county.
JOSCO Farm Director Joseph Seroney welcomed the delegation and expressed openness to deeper collaboration.
“This visit provides a valuable opportunity to explore areas of partnership between the farm and the county government,” Seroney said. “We are ready to work together in promoting agricultural innovation, skills development, value addition and knowledge sharing among farmers.”
Located in Ziwa, JOSCO Farm has been implementing a range of agricultural activities and innovations aimed at boosting productivity and demonstrating modern approaches to commercial farming.
Officials say the model offers lessons that can be replicated to improve livelihoods and stimulate rural economic growth.
