Makueni County Deputy Governor (DG) Lucy Mulili has announced a waiver of hospital, mortuary and postmortem bills for victims of the tragic road accident that occurred in the Kanga area in Kambu Sub county on Sunday morning.

The DG also lauded doctors, nurses, morticians and other health personnel for offering exemplary services to their clients, saying there was a need to continue serving diligently in a bid to preserve lives.

“I want to thank the entire hospital fraternity for attending to the accident victims promptly. One patient has just told me that he has received impeccable services, keep up the standards, for this is our Trauma Centre,” said Mulili when she visited the accident victims.

The Sunday morning grisly accident claimed 23 lives on the spot, including 10 males, 12 females and a male juvenile in the ill-fated bus, owned by the Power of the Word Church International in Mombasa City.

The bodies were moved to Mtito Andei Sub-County Hospital mortuary.

"We received 20 victims at Makindu Sub-County Hospital, 10 of whom were admitted for further treatment. One patient was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while three were referred to other hospitals in accordance with their preference,” said Dr Romeo Wahome, an Emergency Physician leading the hospital’s response team.

While saying some patients underwent surgery and continue to receive treatment under close medical supervision, Dr Wahome said that no fatality had been recorded, among those admitted at the facility.

Also present during the visit was the County Chief Officer (CO) for Health, Dr Harvey Mulei, among other government officials.
