The arrest comes after detectives apprehended another suspect along the Northern Bypass on Wednesday following an intelligence-led operation.

Detectives have arrested a second suspect in connection with a robbery in Parklands, Nairobi, in which a member of the public was attacked and robbed of his valuables in an incident captured in a video that went viral on social media.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect was arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Deep Sea informal settlements within the Parklands-Highridge area.

"The suspect was arrested after intelligence linked him to the violent robbery captured in a viral video, which showed a member of the public being violently attacked and robbed of his valuables in Parklands, Nairobi," the agency said in a statement.

According to the agency, the first suspect was among the men captured in the viral footage.

The video appeared to show a group of individuals assaulting and robbing the victim, who was seen lying on the ground as the alleged attackers searched him for valuables.

The alleged assailants were then seen fleeing with the victim's belongings, leaving him standing and appearing helpless after the attack.

The video circulated widely on social media, drawing public concern over the violent incident and prompting investigations into the suspected robbery.

In a statement, the DCI said intelligence had linked the latest suspect to the incident, describing the arrest as a further breakthrough in the ongoing investigations.

“With two suspects now in custody, detectives are closing in on the remaining accomplice, who is still at large,” the agency stated.

The latest suspect remains in custody as detectives finalise his processing ahead of his arraignment in court.

The agency did not disclose further details about the circumstances of the robbery or the specific role each suspect is alleged to have played.

It added that it remained committed to pursuing those suspected of involvement in criminal activities, dismantling criminal networks and bringing those who threaten public safety to justice.
