The DCI said the suspect had previously been released on bond in the case but allegedly failed to appear in court as required

A sitting MCA has been arrested in Nairobi over alleged mobile phone thefts in the Central Business District.

The suspect was arrested by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station following investigations into three separate phone theft incidents reported in August and September 2026.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives used CCTV footage to identify the suspect in connection with the reported incidents.

The arrest also brought to light an outstanding warrant in a separate alleged theft case.

He remains in custody as detectives process him ahead of his arraignment.

“The DCI reiterates that no one is above the law. Detectives will continue to pursue leads and bring suspects before the courts to answer to criminal conduct, regardless of their position or status in society,” the DCI said.
