Kitui MCA arrested over alleged mobile phone thefts in Nairobi CBD
Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, the MCA for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, was arrested by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station along Mfangano Street following investigations into three reported phone theft incidents in August and September this year.
A sitting Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from Kitui County has been arrested over a series of alleged mobile phone thefts in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has said.
In a post on X, the DCI said Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, the MCA for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, was arrested by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station along Mfangano Street following investigations into three reported phone theft incidents in August and September this year.
According to the post, actionable intelligence led detectives to the suspect, who had been under investigation over the alleged thefts.
Investigators relied on CCTV footage to identify Musyoka in connection with the reported incidents, paving the way for his arrest.
The arrest also brought to light an outstanding warrant against the MCA in a separate case.
“The MCA is wanted in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024 after failing to attend court following his release on bond by Makadara Law Courts, where he had been charged with an offence of stealing,” the post says.

The suspect is being held in custody as detectives complete the necessary processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
The Directorate reiterated that no one is above the law, adding that detectives would continue pursuing leads and bringing suspects before the courts regardless of their position or status in society.
Musyoka’s arrest follows investigations into the alleged phone thefts, but the allegations remain subject to determination by the courts.
The arrest of the politician adds to the growing evidence that mobile theft has increasingly evolved from street muggings to a sophisticated, multi-layered organised crime.
