More than 400 Madrasa pupils and students have graduated in Merti, Isiolo County, in a ceremony that brought together religious, political, and community leaders.

The graduation marked the learners’ completion of their Islamic studies, with leaders and parents commending them for their commitment to education and urging them to use the knowledge gained to contribute positively to their communities.

The ceremony brought together families, religious leaders, and members of the community to mark the important milestone for the learners.

Speakers at the event encouraged the graduates to remain committed to education, uphold good values, and become responsible members of society.

The graduation provided an opportunity for community leaders to highlight the importance of supporting children’s education, including Madrasa programmes, as a foundation for building stronger and more cohesive communities.

The leaders echoed the challenges facing communities in the region, particularly the need for peace and stability, to enable children to pursue their education without disruption.

Former Petroleum Principal Secretary Mohamed Liban called for an end to the hostilities and crimes affecting communities in the county.

He urged both the National and County governments to work closely with local communities and take swift measures to restore lasting peace.

National Gender and Equality Commission Chairperson Rehema Jaldesa said efforts were already underway to find a lasting solution to the insecurity.

She cited a commitment by Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS), Kipchumba Murkomen, to establish a multi-agency team to address the situation in the affected areas.

Jaldesa appealed to residents to give the government an opportunity to implement the measures being proposed rather than continuing to blame others over the insecurity.

However, concerns over the situation remain among local communities. Merti Sub-County Peace Chairperson Mohamed Abduba presented a statement detailing losses attributed to insecurity and attacks in the county over the past nine years.

The more than 400 graduates were presented with certificates as families and community members celebrated their achievement.

For the learners, the ceremony marked the conclusion of their studies and the beginning of another chapter in their education and personal development.
