The ongoing construction of a modern academic block at Kamangu Secondary School in Nachu Ward, Kiambu County, is set to transform learning at the institution, with leaders describing the project as a strategic investment in the future of learners.

The facility, comprising five classrooms, two science laboratories, and administration offices, is expected to ease congestion, provide improved learning spaces, and strengthen the school’s capacity to deliver quality education.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the project, Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa said the investment demonstrated a deliberate commitment to supporting schools and empowering the next generation.

“The construction of this academic block is not just about putting up walls and roofs. It is about creating an environment where our children can learn, dream, and compete with learners from any part of the country,” Ichung’wa said.

He noted that the two science laboratories would particularly boost the teaching of practical subjects, which have in the past been hampered by inadequate facilities.

“For a long time, our students have been sharing limited facilities, especially in sciences. With these laboratories, we are opening doors for them to excel in fields that will drive the economy of this country,” he added.

The legislator said the project was part of a broader programme to improve learning infrastructure in schools across the constituency, stressing that no child should be disadvantaged because of where they come from.

Ichung’wa urged the contractor to ensure the project was completed on time without compromising on quality. He also called on the local community to take ownership of the facility once it is handed over to the school.

School administrators welcomed the project, saying it would help address the growing student population and improve learning outcomes, particularly in science subjects.

Residents also expressed optimism that the new facility would benefit current and future learners while attracting more students to the institution and strengthening its position as a center of academic excellence in Nachu Ward.

The project is part of ongoing efforts by the government and other stakeholders to improve learning infrastructure, enhance access to quality education, and provide learners with facilities that support academic and practical skills development.
