Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced fresh appointments and reappointments to the governing councils of public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in changes published through the latest Kenya Gazette.
According to separate Gazette Notices, the appointments take effect on Friday, July 24, 2026, with all the appointees set to serve three-year terms.
The changes affect Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), the University of Embu, South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU), Laikipia University, Nairobi National Polytechnic and Mawego National Polytechnic.

MMUST Council Members Retain Seats
In a Gazette Notice No. 11248, Ogamba reappointed three members to the Council of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
The three will continue serving on the university’s governing council for the next three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 (1) (d) of the Universities Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Education re-appoints Grace Wanja Kimotho, Dr. Kennedy Ochieng Olungo and Susan Nyaboke Nyasinga to be Members of the Council of the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 24th July, 2026,” read the notice.
University of Embu Member Reappointed
At the same time, vide Gazette Notice No. 11249, Ogamba reappointed Sally Ngeringwony Toroitich as a member of the University of Embu Council.
According to the Gazette, Toroitich will serve for a further three years beginning July 24, 2026.
South Eastern Kenya University Gets New Council Member
In Gazette Notice No. 11250, the Education CS appointed Dr. Daniel Wabwire as a member of the Council of South Eastern Kenya University.
The appointment takes immediate effect and will run for three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 (1) (d) of the Universities Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints– Daniel Wabwire (DR.) to be a Member of the Council of the South Eastern Kenya University, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 24th July, 2026,” a separate notice read.
Laikipia University Council Appointment
Ogamba also appointed Mumbi Kahindu to the Council of Laikipia University.
Her appointment, made under Section 36 (1) (d) of the Universities Act, takes effect from July 24, 2026, and runs for three years.
TVET Appointments as Nairobi National Polytechnic Council Gets New Member
Ogamba also made changes to the leadership of the TVET sector.
Through Gazette Notice No. 11251, he appointed Jones Bitange Nyanbariga as a member of the Nairobi National Polytechnic Council.
The appointment was made under the Nairobi National Polytechnic Order and takes effect from July 24, 2026, for a three-year term.
Mawego National Polytechnic Names New Chairperson
In Gazette Notice No. 11252, Ogamba appointed Patrick Nyangweso Aywago as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Mawego National Polytechnic Council.
He will serve for three years from July 24, 2026.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 5 (1) (a) of the Mawego National Polytechnic Order, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints- Patrick Nyangweso to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Mawego National Polytechnic Council, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 24th July, 2026,” another notice read.
