The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has released a list of approved Grade 11 textbooks and literary texts ahead of the rollout of Grade 11 in 2027.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, KICD Chief Executive Officer Prof. Charles O. Ong’ondo cautioned schools against using textbooks that have not been approved by the institute.

KICD said the use of unapproved textbooks contravenes Section 27 of the KICD Act, 2013, warning that those found violating the law would face legal action.

“The Institute has released the list of approved Grade 11 textbooks and literary texts in readiness for the Grade 11 rollout next year, 2027,” the notice reads.

The institute urged schools and other stakeholders to rely on the approved list when selecting textbooks and literary materials for Grade 11 learners.

Schools that will not have received the required textbooks distributed by the government by mid-January 2027 have been advised to contact KICD.

The institute also asked schools that receive more copies than required based on their learner enrolment numbers to report the matter to KICD.

The release of the approved textbooks comes as schools prepare for the next phase of the Competency-Based Curriculum, with Grade 11 set to be introduced in 2027.

Meanwhile, schools across the country are also preparing learners for the 2026 national assessments.

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) is scheduled to run from Monday, October 26, to Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

The Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) will be administered from Monday, October 26, to Friday, October 30, 2026.
