The two examinations form part of Kenya’s transition from the 8-4-4 education system to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which places greater emphasis on learners’ skills, practical knowledge and continuous assessment.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has warned candidates sitting the 2026 national assessments and examinations against cheating and carrying mobile phones into examination centres as the country prepares to administer tests to over 3.6 million candidates beginning Monday, October 26, 2026.
KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere issued the warning on Sunday, urging candidates to trust their preparation and avoid anyone attempting to pressure or mislead them into breaking examination rules.
“As you prepare to sit your assessments and examinations, trust your preparation and believe in your abilities. Do not allow anyone to mislead, pressure or persuade you into examination malpractice,” Njengere said.
