President William Ruto’s motorcade has attracted public attention in recent months, particularly after the appearance of a latest-generation Lexus LX 600 luxury SUV.
The vehicle, which is among the most expensive and technologically advanced sport utility vehicles in the world, combines luxury, performance, and off-road capability.
While no official public inventory confirms whether the President personally owns the vehicle or it is assigned to his official convoy, the Lexus LX 600 has been widely seen as part of the presidential motorcade, sparking interest in its price, features, and specifications.
Ruto’s Lexus LX 600 is reportedly a 2024 model-year vehicle and was first publicly reported as a new addition to his motorcade in 2024.
The Lexus LX 600 is Lexus’ flagship SUV and is built on the same GA-F platform that underpins the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series.
The model was introduced as the successor to the popular LX 570 and represents a major shift from the previous generation, particularly under the hood.
LX600 Price Tag
The Lexus LX 600 is among the most expensive SUVs in the Kenyan market.
In the United States, the model has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of about $94,000 before taxes and optional extras.
However, import duties, taxes, shipping costs, and dealer margins significantly increase the cost in Kenya.
Market listings for imported units in Kenya typically range between Ksh20 million and Ksh28 million depending on mileage, trim level, and year of manufacture.
Some dealers quote prices above Ksh 30 million for newer, higher-specification variants.
This places the LX 600 in the same league as luxury SUVs such as the Range Rover Autobiography, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and BMW X7.
Luxury-Focused Interior and Features
Unlike the LX 570, which used a naturally aspirated V8 engine, the LX 600 is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine producing 409 horsepower and 650 Newton-meters of torque.
The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system designed to deliver both on-road comfort and serious off-road performance.
The SUV can confidently tackle rough terrain while maintaining the smooth ride expected from a luxury vehicle.
The vehicle shares much of its engineering with the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, one of the world’s most respected off-road vehicles, making it suitable for a wide range of driving conditions.
Inside, the Lexus LX 600 offers a premium cabin finished with high-quality materials, including leather upholstery, wood trim, and advanced technology features.
The SUV comes with a dual-screen infotainment system that separates vehicle controls from navigation and entertainment functions.
Depending on the trim level, the LX 600 can accommodate four, five, or seven passengers.
Higher-end variants offer ventilated and heated seats, rear-seat entertainment screens, a premium Mark Levinson audio system, ambient lighting, panoramic cameras, and advanced driver-assistance features.
The vehicle also has adaptive suspension technology, allowing it to adjust ride comfort to road conditions.
Why It Stands Out
The Lexus LX 600 appeals to political leaders, business executives, and security-conscious buyers because it combines luxury with durability and reliability.
Its Land Cruiser-based platform gives it a reputation for toughness, while its premium cabin and advanced technology ensure a first-class travel experience.
For a presidential convoy, the SUV offers a combination of comfort, prestige, off-road capability, and a commanding road presence, qualities that help explain why it continues to attract attention whenever it appears in public.
Whether viewed as a luxury vehicle or a practical long-distance cruiser, the Lexus LX 600 remains one of the most sought-after SUVs on the market and among the most expensive vehicles currently associated with Kenya’s presidential motorcade.
