Zeda has announced the launch of Zeda Salon: Storytelling Café. The new monthly gathering aims to bring people together through storytelling, dialogue, and meaningful connection.

Drawing inspiration from African oral traditions and the historic legacy of salons as hubs for cultural exchange, Zeda Salon offers a contemporary space where stories, ideas, and communities intersect. Each monthly session will focus on a distinct theme, inviting attendees to listen deeply, share experiences openly, and build bridges across differences.
The inaugural event, themed Firsts, is scheduled for Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Lava Latte, located at the Ebee Showroom on Chaka Road, Nairobi.
The launch evening will feature an opening narrative by Mwende Ngao, writer, cultural producer, and convener of Zeda Salon. Following the opening, attendees will participate in a guided Story Circle centered around the theme of Firsts. Participation in the storytelling portion is entirely optional, ensuring a welcoming environment for both active storytellers and audience listeners.
“Stories have always been one of the ways we make sense of ourselves and each other,” said Mwende Ngao, Founder of Zeda. “In a time when so much of our communication happens through screens, Zeda Salon is an invitation to gather in person, listen with curiosity, and rediscover the connections that make us human.”
The Firsts gathering marks the debut of Common Ground, a five-part series designed to explore shared human experiences. Upcoming themes in the series will examine concepts of inheritance, belonging, and becoming, culminating in The Long Table, a special end-of-year storytelling supper.
