She was best known as Head of Data Protection at KCB Bank Group, where she led data-protection compliance and governance.
Rosemary Koech-Kimwatu was a married mother of four and lived with her family in Ngong, where she died on August 21, 2026.
She was married to Kevin Migwe Kimwatu, who was identified as her husband in the family statement and condolence messages following her death.
At the time of her death, she was also a trustee of KICTANet, where she contributed to Kenya’s technology-policy and internet-governance discussions.

Career Life
Rosemary Koech Kimwatu built a career spanning law, fintech, telecommunications, banking, public policy and data protection.
She began her professional career at Caritas Nairobi, where she worked as a Legal and Administrative Officer and contributed to the establishment of Caritas Microfinance Bank.
Later, she served as Senior Associate for Legal and Regulatory Affairs at Mobile Decisioning Holding Ltd (MODE) before becoming Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at fintech company WayaWaya.
Rosemary Koech Kimwatu subsequently worked at Oxygène Marketing Communications, first as a Legal and Regulatory Specialist and later as Head of Public Policy.
Between 2020 and 2022, Rosemary Koech Kimwatu served as Public Policy Manager at Safaricom PLC, focusing on telecommunications regulatory and policy matters.
She joined KCB Bank Group in June 2022 as Data Protection Officer and was promoted to Head of Data Protection in June 2023, taking on responsibility for data-protection compliance and governance across the group.
Beyond her corporate roles, she held leadership positions in Kenya’s technology-policy sector, including serving as a KICTANet Board Trustee, Principal of the Kenya School of Internet Governance (KESIG), and a leader in several data-protection, fintech and digital-economy organizations.
