Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro announced his exit from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on August 17 and confirmed that he has joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In his declaration, the Kiharu legislator said PPK would now be part of the opposition.

“My people and I have joined the People’s Party of Kenya. I am glad that they have given me an opportunity, and I have accepted. Together as the People’s Party of Kenya, we have joined the Opposition,” he said.

According to records from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), PPK was issued its registration certificate on April 14, 2012, under certificate serial number 022.

The party’s colours are blue, red, and green, with white in between.

Its official slogan is “Usawa, Haki, Uhuru.”

The party describes itself as a grassroots movement representing ordinary Kenyans, including teachers, traders, farmers, boda boda riders, and young people. It uses the slogan “Sauti ya Wakenya”, meaning “The Voice of Kenyans.”

Its headquarters are located at Ruprani House, 2nd Floor, Room 217, Moktar Dada Street, Nairobi, with its postal address listed as P.O. Box 102307-00101, Nairobi.

The People’s Party of Kenya is now led by Ndindi Nyoro, who serves as the Party Leader. Mark Odhiambo is the Chairperson, while Kenneth Maina Wanjiru serves as the Vice Chairperson.

John Kihiu Chere is the Secretary General, deputized by Lilian Chepkorir, the Deputy Secretary General. John Muchoki Mbuthia serves as the National Treasurer, while Peter Chirchir Biwott is the Organizing Secretary.

Jane Githigia Mumbi serves as the Assistant Organizing Secretary, while Daniel Mwema Charles is the National Coordinator. Pauline Nyambura Gichuhi serves as the National Assistant Coordinator, while Beth Wanjiku Wanyaga is the Secretary for Legal Affairs.

Catherine Magiri Wangui serves as the Secretary for Gender and Human Rights, while Silas Premadaza Olale is the Secretary for Youth Affairs.

Objectives of the Party

PPK aims to cooperate and form alliances with like-minded political parties and organizations, according to Ndindi Nyoro. 

The party seeks to promote good governance, national cohesion and international relations, while establishing and operating branch offices across the country.

It also aims to nominate and support candidates seeking elective positions at the ward, parliamentary, senatorial, gubernatorial, women representative, and presidential levels.

The party further seeks to uphold the rule of law through advocacy and civic sensitization, while promoting peace and unity.

Its objectives also include championing climate action, advancing economic growth and job creation, and promoting civic education.

How to Join the People’s Party of Kenya

Membership of the People’s Party of Kenya is open to all Kenyan citizens regardless of colour, creed, gender or race.

To qualify, a person must be 18 years or older and hold a national identification document.

  • Enter your national ID number and first name to obtain an ORPP PIN via SMS.
  • If you are already registered with another political party, select Membership and resign from your current party.
  • Dial *509# again and select Membership.
  • Choose Join a Party and enter PPK.
  • Enter the PPK party code and confirm your membership.
  • Membership costs KSh200 per year.
  • Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged 18 years and above with a national ID.
  • Kenyans living in the diaspora can also register.
