Political activist Kasmuel McOure has criticised leaders from Luo Nyanza who are serving in government, accusing some of undermining Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo despite the role he says young people played in shaping the region’s political direction.
In a statement, McOure argued that the youth-led protests of 2024 helped pave the way for the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) entry into government, insisting that leaders currently holding positions should recognise the contribution of young people.
“All the ODM leaders from Luo Nyanza sitting comfortably in government today owe their positions, in my view, to the pivotal role we, the youth, played in the 2024 revolt that paved the way for ODM’s entry into government, not to any exceptional political scheming or acumen of their own,” he said.
McOure also criticised unnamed leaders whom he accused of using their resources and political networks to undermine Omollo, whom he described as President William Ruto’s most credible voice in Luo Nyanza in the absence of the late Raila Odinga, popularly known as Jakom.
“I therefore find it profoundly distasteful that some leaders should expend their resources and political energy, both personally and through proxies, undermining PS Dr. Raymond Omollo, whom I consider, in the absence of Jakom, the President’s most credible voice in Luo Nyanza,” he said.
He urged political leaders to organise their events properly, treat young people with dignity and avoid violence, arguing that political mobilisation should not be accompanied by intimidation or disorder.
“PS Omollo’s events demonstrate that political mobilisation need not descend into intimidation or disorder to be effective. That ought to be the standard for everyone,” McOure said.
He further accused some leaders of resorting to violence to conceal what he described as political and organisational weaknesses, calling for greater discipline in political engagements.
McOure declares support for Ruto’s re-election
McOure said the 2027 General Election should focus on securing Ruto’s re-election and restoring the political standing of the Luo community at the ballot box.
“2027 is solely about President William Ruto’s re-election and restoring the dignity of our community at the ballot box. It will be the first election we SHALL NOT lose,” he said.
He added that he would transfer the loyalty previously accorded to Raila to Ruto for a second term, while challenging other political leaders to earn the support of the community through their actions.
“He is the only one to whom we shall unconditionally transfer the loyalty we had for Jakom, for his second term. The rest of you will have to earn that loyalty, and you certainly will not earn it by trying to pull down leaders who actually help our youth,” he said.
McOure argued that political disorganisation and bravado had contributed to past electoral losses, urging leaders to change their approach as the country heads towards the next General Election.
