The Maraga-led coalition wants hourly electronic voter turnout updates, final polling station results and public tallying of presidential votes to close loopholes for electoral manipulation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The People’s Coalition on Electoral Reforms, led by former Chief Justice David Maraga, has proposed four amendments to the Elections Amendment Bill, including the mandatory hourly transmission of voter turnout figures instead of the current practice of announcing them at 6 pm.

Addressing the media on Monday, Maraga said the proposals aim to address gaps in the law that could allow electoral manipulation, enhance transparency and safeguard the credibility of the 2027 General Election.

“Our purpose for seeking live transmission of presidential election results is to make the whole process transparent. We want voter turnout to be transmitted on an hourly basis. The trend of IEBC announcing voter turnout figures at 6 pm must come to an end. That system is rigged,” he said.
