Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi City County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, has declared his intention to contest the Nairobi governor seat in the 2027 General Election, becoming the latest entrant in a growing field that includes the incumbent, Johnson Sakaja.
Mosiria made the declaration on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the same day he met former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i. He later accompanied Matiang’i to Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s Jesus Is Alive Ministries church in Nairobi, where he addressed congregants.
During the service, Mosiria proposed Wanjiru, a former Starehe MP and the church’s leader, as his running mate. He did not say whether she had formally accepted the proposal.
Speaking in Kiswahili, Mosiria presented his county service record as the basis of his candidacy. He said he had worked in different departments, including health and customer care, and claimed credit for establishing Nairobi’s first intensive care unit and ensuring the availability of medicine in the county. Those claims, made in his public remarks, have not been independently verified.
Mosiria said he encountered resistance as he rose through the ranks but continued working. He described his later posting to customer care as a turning point, saying he found children and mothers in distress and began assisting them, which he said earned him support from women.
He told the congregation that if elected governor, he would want Wanjiru as his deputy, arguing the combination would move the county forward. He also said he would return to the church at the same time next year to thank congregants should he be elected.
Mosiria urged aspirants to campaign on policies rather than violence or drugs, and to engage voters directly instead of deploying gangs. He said he had helped many young people in Nairobi.
His entry adds another contender to the race. Sakaja is seeking to retain his seat. Other listed contenders include Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri, businesswoman Agnes Kagure, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, Wanjiru, Makadara MP George Aladwa and KANU spokesperson Tony Gachoka.
The exact purpose of Mosiria’s meeting with Matiang’i beyond attending the church service was not established. Whether Wanjiru has accepted the running-mate proposal also remains unclear.
