Governor Wavinya Ndeti addressing the public in Mwala, Machakos county on November 2, 2026.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called on Kenyans to back Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka's 2027 presidential bid.

Speaking at Mbiuni Market in Mwala Sub-County during the launch of the County Government's Certified Seed Distribution Programme, Ndeti described Kalonzo as a leader who has consistently demonstrated commitment to national unity, citing his past political sacrifices including his support for the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

She said the country needs a unifying leader who can promote peace and stability.

"Kalonzo has sacrificed so many times for the late Raila Odinga. I am kindly asking Kenyans to support His Excellency Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka to become President. We want peace, and I believe he can deliver that. We need Kenya to stabilise and experience a Kibaki moment, and the person I believe can provide that leadership is Kalonzo Musyoka," Ndeti said.

On food security, the governor announced that the county is distributing 40 tonnes (40,000 kilograms) of certified seeds to benefit 20,000 vulnerable households across the county. The programme is expected to cover 5,150 acres and produce an estimated 52,000 bags of food grains.

"Today, we are releasing 40 tonnes of certified seeds targeting 20,000 vulnerable households countywide. This will cover 5,150 acres and is projected to yield 52,000 bags of food grains, directly safeguarding our county's food security," she said.

She said the county, in partnership with the National Government through the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), has digitised over 230,000 farmers, enabling them to access subsidised agricultural inputs. She urged unregistered farmers to visit agricultural extension officers for enrolment.

"In partnership with the National Government through NCPB depots, over 230,000 Machakos farmers are now digitised and accessing subsidised inputs. If you are not yet registered, I urge you to visit our agricultural extension officers in the field immediately to get enrolled," she added.

Ndeti also outlined other interventions aimed at improving productivity, including improved access to water, livestock production support, artificial insemination, poultry development, livestock vaccination and enhanced extension services in every ward.

She attributed the county's progress in food production to the interventions, noting that Machakos was ranked sixth nationally in maize production in 2024 by the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA).

One of the beneficiaries of the previous seed programme, Caroline Gatakaa, commended the Governor for investing in agriculture, saying the certified seeds she received had significantly improved her farm's productivity.
