Sifuna to launch Linda Mwananchi secretariat as 2027 presidential ambitions gather pace
The Nairobi senator will unveil the movement’s headquarters and secretariat in Lavington as he steps up efforts to secure the Opposition’s presidential ticket and build nationwide support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is set to take a major step towards his 2027 presidential ambitions on Friday by unveiling the Linda Mwananchi Movement’s secretariat and headquarters in Nairobi, alongside plans to establish a think tank to drive his political campaign.
The launch in Lavington will mark a new phase in Sifuna’s efforts to build a political outfit capable of rallying support for his presidential bid and positioning him to secure the Opposition’s joint ticket.
The move follows a protracted search for a political party through which he could organise his operations, following his acrimonious fallout with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which triggered divisions and rebellion within the party.
The new headquarters will serve as the movement’s operational nerve centre, coordinating its political activities as Sifuna seeks to win the backing of other Opposition leaders to become their presidential flagbearer.
Bumula MP Jack Wamboka confirmed the arrangements to journalists. A source within the Linda Mwananchi Movement told The Eastleigh Voice that the team being assembled for the secretariat would prioritise expertise and competence.
“We have assembled a team that we believe will deliver the presidency should Sifuna be handed the Opposition flagbearer’s ticket. What we want is to have it right with his bid,” said the source.

Several prominent political figures have been linked to positions in the movement’s proposed leadership. They include former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, Patrick Makau, Godfrey Osotsi, Reuben Ndolo, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo.
The movement is also working through the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties to rebrand The Equitable Party (TEP) as the Linda Mwananchi Movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Linda Mwananchi targets nationwide expansion
Following Friday’s launch, the movement plans to take its mobilisation campaign to Kwale and Turkana counties before embarking on a diaspora tour of the United States starting November 19, 2026.
Omondi has said the party will adopt a centre-left political ideology, with human rights, economic liberation and constitutionalism forming its key pillars.
Onyoka said the launch would be followed by a nationwide mobilisation drive, including the resumption of public rallies to popularise the movement and its presidential candidate.
“Once we are done with sorting issues of party registration and naming of officials, we will be embarking on rallies across the country to popularise the party and the presidential candidate,” said Onyonka.
The movement is scheduled to hold a rally in Kwale County on Saturday, October 31, as it seeks to strengthen its grassroots networks beyond Nairobi.
According to Onyonka, the meeting will build on ongoing efforts to establish the movement’s presence in different parts of the country and attract support ahead of the next General Election.
Sifuna previously met local leaders, ward and sub-county representatives, as well as political aspirants during a Coast tour on September 25, as the movement sought to establish structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
Linda Mwananchi has also held rallies in Mombasa and Taita Taveta counties as part of its wider campaign to reach supporters across the country.
The movement has pledged to establish a presence in all 47 counties before engaging other Opposition leaders on a joint political strategy ahead of the elections.
Its expansion drive comes as political formations intensify preparations for 2027, with Opposition leaders exploring alliances and ways of consolidating their support.
Sifuna courts opposition leaders
As he builds his presidential campaign, Sifuna has been reaching out to fellow Opposition leaders in an effort to secure their backing and forge a common political front.
He recently met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua shortly after the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader returned to Kenya from the United States.
The meeting was held at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County on Tuesday, amid calls by DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala for Sifuna to team up with Gachagua ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The engagements underline Sifuna’s efforts to broaden his political alliances as he seeks to position himself as a possible Opposition presidential candidate.
