The Manchester United’s new 2026/27 third kit is more than just a jersey. The striking new design tells a deeper story, with details that connect the club to the city it calls home and give fans another reason to take notice.

For fans, wearing this jersey is about more than supporting the team on the pitch. It is about carrying a piece of Manchester’s story and its pride.

The new strip is part of Manchester United’s 2026/27 season collection, serving as the club’s official third kit for the campaign. The kit is manufactured by adidas, which continues to produce Manchester United’s playing and training apparel.

Unlike the club’s traditional red home shirt, the new third kit uses an ivory or off-white base color, giving it a different visual identity.

“Built on an ivory base, the jersey draws on the city’s rich cultural identity, bringing together heritage references and modern construction in a design that celebrates the communities that continue to play an important role in Manchester life,” the club detailed.

The ivory base is complemented by dark red accents, with the shade described as maroon or burgundy, adding contrast to the predominantly light-coloured shirt.

Its design also incorporates dark green detailing, creating a three-color combination of ivory, dark red and green across the kit.

Manchester United New 2026/27 Third Design and symbolism

Manchester United kit was designed by Inigo Turner, adidas design director and a Manchester native who has supported Manchester United throughout his life.

According to the club, the design draws on Manchester’s youth culture, community heritage and local identity, incorporating elements associated with the city and its institutions.

One of the standout features is a hand-drawn rose pattern incorporated into the fabric across the front and sleeves. The artwork has a tattoo-inspired appearance.

“A bespoke floral graphic wraps across the shirt, featuring hand-drawn rose illustrations engineered directly into the fabric. Inspired by artwork found across community spaces and cultural institutions throughout Manchester, including Salford Lads and Girls Club, the pattern adds subtle depth to the jersey while creating a distinctive visual identity rooted in the city,” the club explained.

The floral design draws on the Lancashire rose, a symbol associated with Lancashire and Manchester. In the context of the kit, the rose represents growth, youth, and Manchester United’s academy tradition.

The design also pays tribute to the Salford Lads and Girls Club, a historic Manchester institution that has supported young people in the community.

Special details and launch

According to the club, the Salford Lads and Girls Club played a key role in the third kit’s design, inspiring several of its elements. The historic youth club also hosted the official unveiling of the new strip.

“Rich maroon detailing appears across the adidas logo, club devil crest, collar and sleeve trims, drawing inspiration from the red-brick architecture that characterizes many of Manchester’s historic buildings. Contrasting green accents feature on the adidas three stripes, referencing the distinctive green doors found throughout the city, including those of Salford Lads and Girls Club.”

The club’s influence shows in the kit’s ivory, burgundy and dark green color palette, which reflects elements associated with the institution and its surroundings.

Another distinctive detail appears at the back of the shirt, where a “Manchester United Football Club” stamp is styled after the arched entrance sign associated with the Salford Lads Club.

The third kit made its on-pitch debut against AC Milan in Poland during Manchester United’s final pre-season match in August 2026. The kit was officially launched and made available for purchase on August 14, 2026, through Manchester United stores and adidas outlets.
