Outgoing Kenya PoliceOutgoing Poilce FC head coach Nicholas Muyoti and his assistant John Baraza/HANDOUT
Fired Kenya Police head coach Nicholas Muyoti is determined to advance his coaching career by securing a CAF 'A' licence before his next career move.
Muyoti and his assistant, John Baraza, both former Harambee Stars stalwarts, were fired by the law enforcers after a difficult start to the new SportPesa League season.
Police have one point from two matches, 1-1 draw with Migori Youth in the opening match, and a 2-1 defeat to AFC Leopards in Tuesday’s second.
Club insiders said the recent changes were driven by mounting frustrations over performance, culminating in a swift parting of ways despite official framing around career advancement.
Muyoti confirmed the development in an exclusive interview on Wednesday morning, saying the club management had formally contacted them to communicate the decision.
The experienced tactician, who guided Nairobi United to top-flight promotion and CAF Confederation Cup group stage, said he will not be quick in his next move.
“We were informed by the management of Police about the current development. I respect their decision,” Muyoti said.
“At the moment, I am in class pursuing my CAF 'A' licence, and that is my main priority. I want to give the course my full attention and complete it before making any decisions about my next move. I will take my time, assess the opportunities available and then decide on the best way forward for my coaching career,” he said.
The club announced the departure in a statement, explaining that the two tacticians had joined Kenya Police on the understanding that they would be released whenever an opportunity arose for them to advance their education.
“Coach Nicholas Muyoti and John Baraza joined Kenya Police Football Club on the understanding that the club would release them to advance their CAF coaching credentials whenever an opportunity arose,” the statement read.
Both coaches hold CAF ‘B’ licences and have activated their requests to pursue CAF A coaching classes, a qualification the club says will become increasingly important as coaching requirements evolve in the Kenyan top flight.
“The club has consented to their requests and recognises that the coaching dynamics are shifting. Soon it will be mandatory for only licensed CAF 'A' holders to steer Kenyan Premier League teams,” the Police statement added.
“The board and management of the team commends the duo’s diligence, commitment, professionalism and work ethic while wishing them very best in their education and coaching journeys.”
Muyoti took charge of Police FC in January 2026 after joining the club as assistant coach under Serbian tactician Dusan Stojanovic. He was promoted to head coach following Stojanovic’s departure and guided the team to a third-place finish in the league last season, and the Mozzart Bet Cup final, where they fell to Tusker.
Baraza, a three-time Kenyan Premier League Golden Boot winner, joined Police as Muyoti’s assistant after previously serving in coaching roles at Sofapaka and Bandari.
Kenya Police said they will communicate their future coaching plans in due course.
