NAIROBI, Kenya, October 31, 2026 – The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have called for a national executive committee (NEC) meeting on November 8 (Sunday next week) during which members are to consider a proposal to suspend an unidentified member.
In a letter signed by FKF president Hussein Mohammed, and circulated on social media, the issue is among 17 other items on the agenda of the day, which also includes compliance with a court order on the status of acting CEO Dennis Gicheru.
The meeting, scheduled for Weston Hotel from 10 am, will occur a day after a special general meeting (SGM) in Meru where Hussein and his deputy, MacDonald Mariga, will be put to task before the FKF congress to answer to various accusations concerning their conduct as top officials.
Should they be found guilty, either the president or his deputy — or both — could be sent packing at the SGM.
Indeed, one other item for discussion at Weston will be the SGM, which makes the meeting all the more interesting as to how the NEC will handle or respond to the resolutions of the day before.
Other issues for consideration for the NEC meeting will be the national team coaches, which comes hot on the heels of contrasting fortunes for the country’s men and women’s sides.
The men’s team boss Benni McCarthy recently came out to complain of a lack of work permit for him as well as foreign members of his technical bench — not forgetting delayed allowances.
This even as Harambee Stars began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers campaign with a 1-1 draw with Eritrea in Nairobi before a 1-0 loss to Guinea in Conakry, five days later.
Their female counterparts, Harambee Starlets, lost all their matches at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) in Morocco, ultimately costing Beldine Odemba her position as head coach.
She has since been replaced by immediate former Nairobi United boss Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor — albeit in an interim capacity.
The NEC have been unable to meet for some time now even as the row between Hussein and Mariga continues to simmer before finally reaching a boiling point this month.
The president accused Mariga and six other NEC members of their unwillingness to reason and reach a middle ground on various issues afflicting the federation wheareas the former Inter Milan midfielder claimed that he has been sidelined from the running of activities within the FKF.
It remains to be seen how the latest episode of the Kandanda House telenovela will unravel come Sunday.
