Major win for UDA in Evurore, Muminji Wards seat

The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has swept both Evurore and Muninji Wards seats in Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County in the Thursday by-elections.

In Evurore Ward, Duncan Muratia Nyaga garnered 7, 853 votes to defeat his closest rival Albert Muchira Kigoro of the Democratic Party (DP) who secured 1, 940 votes, while Independent Candidate Johnson Mukui emerged third with 1, 753 votes.

In the neighboring Muminji Ward, Peterson Njeru clinched the victory after securing 3, 207 votes to defeat Boniface Kariuki Ngari of Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) popularly known as Bus Party, who got 2,232 votes, while John Nyaga Njeru of UPA trailed with 278 votes.

The youthful Muratia in his victory speech promised to fulfil the pledges he made during the campaign trail including road improvement, water provision and employment for the youths

“I will honor every commitment I made to the people of Evurore. This victory belongs to them, and I will serve them diligently,” he said, amid cheers from jubilant supporters.

On the other hand, Njeru said the area had in him finally gotten the transformative leadership they have been yearning for.

“The people of Muminji have chosen progress. They have chosen the best leader they have been agitating for, and I will not let them down,” he affirmed.

The twin victories mark yet another political milestone for the government, coming hot on the heels of the parliamentary by-election win by Leo Wamuthende in Mbeere North in November last year.

The outcome however is a big blow for the opposition especially DEP that will lose their two nomination slots that will now go to the ruling party.
