Controller of Budget seeks clarity on county bursaries

The Controller of Budget, Margaret Nyakango, is back in court seeking clarity on whether county governments can continue issuing bursaries. Nyakango wants urgent direction on whether governors’ requests for bursary funding for the 2026/2027 financial year should be approved, amid existing court orders that halted new bursary allocations. In June, the court found that the lack of a coordinated national database to track bursary and scholarship allocations violated several provisions of the Constitution. Melita Oletenges reports.
