WHO cautions against Ebola travel restrictions as Kenya releases first contacts from quarantine
Description (show more)
The World Health Organization is cautioning countries against imposing travel restrictions and border closures in response to the evolving Ebola situation, urging governments to prioritise trust, transparency and cooperation in containing the outbreak. The WHO warns that such restrictions could have far-reaching economic consequences and discourage countries from promptly reporting outbreaks. Meanwhile, Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has announced that the first group of contacts traced from Kenya’s first Ebola case, who have completed the mandatory 21-day monitoring period, will leave quarantine starting this weekend. The Ministry of Health says there is no risk of community transmission, urging Kenyans to remain calm and avoid stigmatising those completing quarantine.
