Just 24 hours after an 18-storey building under construction collapsed in Eastleigh, the Kenya Red Cross says that 31 people remain missing and unaccounted for as multi-agency rescue efforts intensify.

Authorities have, however, confirmed the whereabouts of people who were previously missing as updated tallies show many workers have since been accounted for or traced.

Government Spokeperson Charles Owino confirmed the same during a visit to the scene saying, “We have taken the numbers and through contact tracing we are able to connect them with their loved ones.”

The rescue operation along Yusuf Haji Avenue on 9th Street remains intensive, even as government officials vow to bring culprits to book.

“Those who will be found culpable will face the full force of the law,” Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, warned.

He added that all 67 construction workers deployed at the site have been accounted for. While 66 escaped uninjured, one sustained injuries and is receiving treatment in stable condition.

This follows earlier statement issued by the National Construction Authority (NCA) noting that the building project on 9th Street, Eastleigh, Kamukunji Sub-County, was registered on July 30, 2025, by developer 9th Street Plaza Limited.

“The contractor on record is Stromax Holdings E.A Limited, registration number 41669/B/0618). The professionals listed on record are Arch. Emmanuel Mwangi Maina (registration number A2045) as the project architect and Eng. Joseph Muturi Mugu (registration number A2750), as the project structural engineer,” NCA says.
