Rubis Energy Kenya has launched a Boda Boda program in a strategic move to support Kenya’s vibrant transport sector. ‘Boda Baze’ gives boda boda and tuk-tuk operators dedicated fuel pumps at 67 stations nationally. Separating rider traffic also speeds up the stop for other motorists.

The boda boda and tuk-tuk industry is a vital artery in Kenya’s transport sector, driving last-mile logistics, facilitating daily commutes, and serving as a massive engine for youth employment. Recognizing this sector’s indispensable role in keeping the nation moving, Rubis Energy Kenya says it has positioned itself as a dedicated enabler of their daily hustle through this initiative.

Joining the Boda Baze community is completely free, paperless, and works on any phone. Riders simply dial *408# to register, then collect an RFID tag for their bike or tuk-tuk at any participating Rubis station. The tag does more than unlock rewards at the pump: it serves as a badge of honour and a symbol of belonging to a recognized, empowered community of riders.

Under Boda Baze, registered riders get an instant Ksh 3 discount per litre on Rubis UltraTec fuel and Ksh 10 per litre on Castrol Power 1 lubricant.

The programme is built to go further than fuel and lubricants discounts. It is being developed into a comprehensive welfare and services platform shaped by the realities of a rider’s day. Rubis has partnered with Mamy Eyewear on “Clear Vision, Safe Rides”, which offers members a free eye consultation once they have purchased 50 litres — a road safety measure as much as a health one. In upcoming phases, the platform is being developed to include health insurance, ambulance and roadside rescue services, last-expense cover, and fuel financing facilities, cover riders rarely have access to on their own.

Dedicated rider pumps separate two very different kinds of stop, a rider’s pit-stop and a car’s full tank, so both move faster. Rubis Energy Kenya effectively ensures that motorists and commercial drivers sharing the station spend less time queueing.

Speaking during the launch event at Rubis Airport North Road Service station, Kevin Mubadi, Chairman of the National Boda Boda Safety Association, lauded the initiative as a transformative milestone for the sector.

“The boda boda sector moves this country, but our riders face tough economic realities every day. This partnership with Rubis Energy Kenya is a game-changer,” said Mr. Mubadi. “It is not just about a discount on fuel and Castrol oil; it is about recognizing the rider as a valuable business partner. The dedicated pumps bring dignity and speed to their work, and the upcoming health and financial benefits will provide a safety net that this industry desperately needs. When you empower a boda boda rider, you empower an entire community.”
