Veteran broadcast journalist Yvonne Okwara has dismissed widespread speculation that she is moving to London following her departure from Royal Media Services (RMS).
Veteran Kenyan journalist Yvonne Okwara has clarified that she has no plans to relocate to London after her recent exit from Royal Media Services (RMS).
Rumors began swirling after Ms. Okwara was appointed Head of Investments and Partnerships at Shuga Global, which is formerly the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, an organization with deep roots in the British capital.
In a light-hearted editors’ exchange forum, she clarified that she is unlikely not relocating, and is staying put in Kenya.
“Hahah! I am not moving to London, though. You should stop reading the blogs. Shuga has shifted its global headquarters to Nairobi. I am based here,” she said, putting the rumors to rest.
The clarification follows her official exit from Citizen TV after eight-and-a-half-year stint at RMS and nearly 20 years in mainstream media.
On October 27, 2026, Ms. Okwara delivered an emotional sign-off during her final broadcast of the current affairs program, The Explainer.
“Keep asking the right questions. Keep demanding better. Keep holding power to account,” she said on her final show.
Transitioning out of the newsroom, her new role at Shuga Global majorly focuses on mobilizing resources and driving youth empowerment initiatives across Africa from a Nairobi base.
A microbiology graduate from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Ms. Okwara built a formidable career across KBC, Nation Media Group, KTN, and Citizen TV.
Her career milestones include anchoring prominent programs like Tonight and News Gang, moderating national presidential debates, and interviewing high-profile figures such as UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
