The government has embarked on a major crack down on goons in Homa Bay County.

County Commissioner Ronald Mwiwawi said investigations had established that there were over 600 goons perpetrating anarchy in the county.

Mwiwawi said the gangs’ intentions were to overrun the security machinery and take control of the county.

He said the government had however laid down adequate measures to dismantle the criminal gangs.

The administrator said the multi-agency crackdown has led to the arrest of more than 50 goons in the county.

Speaking during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebration at Kamasengre Comprehensive School in Mbita Sub-county, Mwiwawi warned that no goon will be spared.

“We have established that gangs of over 600 goons had been established to take over security from the official government agencies. Their intention was to control entry into the county at any time of their wish,” Mwiwawi said.

The County Commissioner who was accompanied by Homa Bay Deputy Governor Danish Onyango and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, vowed that the government will ensure all the goons and their sponsors were brought to book.

“We have laid down our strategies to end this gang. We cannot allow anarchy in Homa Bay county,” Mwiwawi said.

The administrator told the youths to engage in legitimate economic activities noting that sanity must be restored in the county. He told the youth to understand that crime does not pay.

Mwiwawi also used the opportunity to address the conflict between fishermen and investors engaged in cage fish farming in Lake Victoria.

He told the cage fish investors to seek authority from the relevant government agencies before commencing their activities in the lake.

He expressed concerns that some investors were being misled by Beach Management Unit officials to start their businesses in the lake without a

“Let no investor be cheated by anyone to start cage fish farming in the lake haphazardly. Seek authorization through the relevant government agencies,” he said.

The Mashujaa day was dedicated to freedom fighter Tom Mboya who hailed from Kamasengre, village, the venue of the ceremony.

Ms Millie Odhiambo urged leaders to emulate the traits of Tom Mboya who had enthusiasm for development.

“Holding this event here is a special honour to the late Mboya and his family as our elders requested. Let’s emulate the development agenda Mboya demonstrated during his lifetime.” Millie said.
