A land fraud investigation involving a prime property in Diani, Kwale County, valued at approximately Sh45 million, culminated in the arrest and arraignment of a suspect.
Detectives from the DCI headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) arrested George Nyambati Mochache following investigations into the alleged fraudulent dealings involving a land parcel measuring approximately three hectares.
The property was reportedly purchased in 1991 by the complainant.
Trouble started in April 2023 when the complainant was alerted that a third party had allegedly entered the property, subdivided the land by placing beacons, commenced clearing activities and advertised portions of the property for sale.
Following comprehensive investigations, the resultant case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and advice.
The ODPP subsequently directed that the suspect be charged with conspiracy to defraud.
The suspect was arrested at DCI Headquarters after responding to a court summons on October 2, 2026, before being processed and escorted to Kwale.
On October 5, 2026, Mochache was arraigned before the Kwale Law Courts, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court granted him a Sh10 million bond, with the matter scheduled for mention on October 29, 2026.
The DCI, through its Land Fraud Investigations Unit, continues to pursue land fraudsters who attempt to dispossess legitimate property owners through fraudulent schemes, while safeguarding the sanctity of land ownership and the integrity of property records.
